How I Made My Blog Using WordPress

Why I decided to make a blog?

There are so many great opportunities available for kids, and I just wanted to share those opportunities with others since they can be hard to find. If I could blog about them, I thought I could reach as many people as possible.

What are the basic steps for setting up a blog?

  1. Get a Website name.
  2. Get Hosting
  3. Install WordPress
  4. Create your blog or website

I chose Bluehost to host my domain name. On their website, you can search for available domain names. Once you found a domain name, I select the WordPress hosting option, which was easy to install with one-click

Why I chose WordPress?

I chose WordPress because it was the most popular content management system (CMS) available and allowed non-techies like me to create a professional-looking website without coding anything.

Is it easy to learn WP?

The WordPress website says it is easy to use, but I don’t agree. Installing WP is easy. But it is confusing to learn. It took me more than 10 hours to set up my basic blog and another few hours to correct my mistakes.

What is the fastest way to learn WP?

There are thousands of videos, blogs, and forums on learning WordPress, but finding a good quality video tutorial is the most efficient way. First, ask yourself what kind of website you want to make. I wanted to make a blog, so I used Tyler Moore’s YouTube video called How to Make a WordPress Blog – Step by Step.

He doesn’t miss any steps and assumes you don’t know anything about WordPress (which was true for me). His tutorial is very detailed and makes everything simple and easy to understand.

I had the basic blog online in one weekend, but it took me much longer to start making my content.

Is it worth learning WP?

Yes. WP has thousands of themes that determine your blog’s overall appearance and layout. If you have a specific look in mind, you can search thousands of different themes and probably find a suitable theme for you, and you won’t even need to customize it. WP also has thousands of plugins that are like apps on your phone that allow you to add or increase features. There are plugins to add a WhatsApp,  book appointments, make contact forms, scan for broken hyperlinks, or even back up your blog.

Elementor is a free plugin I used for my website, a drag-and-drop page builder that allows easy editing of web pages.

All the themes and plugins that I used were free.
